Master bedroom reveal

I am so excited to show my finished master bedroom. This was a fun transformation for us. Things came together easily, and I love the change the room gave to my home.
Here are the before pictures.

This room was a blank canvas. It had cream walls, an awful ceiling fan, and no personality. So we transformed the space.

We painted the room the same color as the bathroom, painted the molding of the ceiling a paint color two shades lighter and painted the trim the ultra bright white we used through the whole house. We took down the crown molding and created some lower molding, installing LED lights behind it to light the ceiling at night. I got rid of the ceiling fan and found this great orb light that matches the style of chandelier used in our bathroom. I re purposed and painted a lot of items in the room. I love using things that have meaning, especially in personal spaces like bedrooms.  Re using what you have and re purposing things just to fit a particular space helps add personality and character to the room. We love how this room turned out. The color is so calming, and it is a perfect space to relax in at night. Pin It

Half bath

So while we were doing our big master bath project, we decided to finish the half bath downstairs at the same time.

This is the room before the demo.  All I can say about it is EWWW! I have hated this room since the day we moved in.  The paint was brown...I hate the color brown, the floors were wood which the toilet leaked on and made it smell  great, and it was where all our guests went to use the restroom.  Embarrassing right! So let's just say, I was more than a little excited to demo this room!

 We ripped out everything including the floors. The room is small, which was great since it didn't take hardly any time at all.

We installed the same small black and white hex tile as we used in our bathroom. It was a pretty quick and easy install.  I found this vanity at Lowes and decided to paint it gray using the same liquid sand, primer and paint that I have used on my other cabinets.  We painted the walls a fun light aqua color and installed V board paneling on half of the walls. 

I bought this mirror at the Hobby Lobby for around ten bucks. It was on clearance because it had a little scratch on it.  I decided to paint it a light gray and distress it.  It added such fun personality to that room and was super easy to paint and finish.  I just used regular satin wall paint and brushed on a couple of coats.  After it was dry, I sanded it to show some of the black paint underneath.

Here is the vanity after I painted it. The gray paint made it totally look like an actual piece of furniture.

Here is the mirror above the sink.  The aqua color is actually a little less mint green, but there is no natural light in that room and it is hard to photograph.

Here is the sink part of the room.  I need to add some art on the long side wall, but over all I love how it turned out and I am no longer embarrassed to have my guests use our bathroom.

Finish Master Bath Pictures

Finally...after almost three months my bathroom is done. I am so happy to have that room finished. This has been one of our hardest re models.  I don't know if it was because it was the start of school, or it was being up rooted and having my things in all different places in the house.  I also know that I don't deal well with messes, and this was a mess for quite a while. Anyway....here is the before...

And here is the finished bathroom.

I took a lot of different pictures. It is hard to photograph the room because of the orientation.  I love how it turned out...very calming and spa like. Now that it is done, it was totally worth it! Pin It

Finishing touches

I am so happy to say that we are done, finished, and there is nothing left to do with the girl's bathroom makeover. I am over the moon with how it turned out! It was defiantly one of the worst rooms in our home, and now it is one of my favorites. The moldings were the last detail in the room. I painted them and my husband installed them.
I decided to frame the mirror with white molding.

We also added white chair rail to top the V board. It is amazing what molding does to finish off a room.

I painted the molding before we put it up and then we just installed it by nailing it to the wall.  The smaller moldings in the corner of the mirror were too small to nail so we ended up gluing them with some liquid nails.
We found these mirrors at Ikea we loved and knew would go so cute in the room.  We decided to keep the large mirror over the sink and install the smaller mirrors over top.

We used 3M hangers to hang them on the mirror.  We were originally going to use adhesive glue, but they are light enough to hold the mirrors.  I love the touch of girly it adds to the room.

I found this fun clock at wayfair and knew it would be perfect in the room.  My oldest daughter painted the rose and it is so fun to have her artwork hanging in her bathroom. I love the yellow and blue color combination in this room. It is calm and fun at the same time.

I am so excited to have this room finished, and I love how it turned out!

It's bright and I love it!

I am so close to being finished with my game room. We have been working on it for a couple of weeks, adding paint, wainscoting, desks, game tables...you name it. Except for the trim and a few touches the room is finally done. Here is the before...dull and boring. Just a blank space.

Here it is now...bright and full of color!

I wanted big pops of color in this room so I added a lot of turquoise, reds, and bright greens. It is a game room, so we wanted to make it fun.

We have a place to watch TV, do homework, and have fun playing games.

I found this table at the DI for 25 bucks. We sanded the top and stained it a different color, and I painted the legs a nice gray. I had the stain and paint in the garage, so this table was literally a 25 buck purchase.

I am so excited how this room turned out. It was a lot of hard work, but defiantly worth doing. We added personality to the walls by adding the wainscoting, and paint. We re used the couch, rocker and settee. I found the ottoman at Down East Home, and painted an existing table I had bright green.  I love re using what I have in my home to make the room affordable and give things I already have new life.  Just by adding new pillows my couch had a completely different look to it.  I love color and it was fun to just play with it in this room to make it a bright and fun place for the whole family to enjoy. Throw back Thursday

My twelve year old daughter went to school today wearing leg warmers, ratted hair, purple eyeshadow, and everything else that entails dressing in the eighties.  It was throw back Thursday at her school today.  She was so excited, and it got me thinking about all the fun things I have worked on in all the other houses I have lived in.  Some of my favorite things to do when I move into a house is to add color.  As I am re doing this house, I love to see all the different rooms and color that I added to other places I have lived in.

This was one of my favorite views  in the entry as you walked into our home.  The whole main level was open and I painted it a yellow color.  I wanted to add some interest by adding a red accent wall.  I also painted my living room a soft green color on the walls, and almost a blue green on the ceiling.  Yes, I love painting ceilings a color, and often times a different color then the rooms.  I think it adds so much interest to a room. We added a lot of wainscotting in that house  I love how the white popped against the color. 

Here is just the yellow color looking down from our second floor.  I took the red and added a touch of it in my decor.  I also painted the stair rail.  It was oak, along with every piece of trim in that house.  It was very easy to paint, and stayed nice.  I always use a liquid sand product on my wood before I paint it and it helps it not to chip.

I love looking at all my pictures and seeing the projects I have done and the personality we have added to a home. I love color.  I haven't chosen as much color for this home, and I am thinking that I want to maybe add a little more touch of color to it.  It really is an easy and relatively inexpensive way to add your style and fun to any home.

Re locating the laundry

I can't believe it has been since October since I have last posted. I have missed blogging and taking pictures of our projects.  Life has been busy...work, school,play, Christmas...you name it.
I am excited to show one of more recent projects, my laundry room.  When we bought the home, the laundry was located on the main floor next to the kitchen and I wanted to eventually use that space for a mud room.  There was a large walk in closet in the upper level of our house I wasn't using. We thought about it and drew it up and decided to convert the closet into a laundry room.  I was so excited to finally have a dedicated space just for the laundry. No more sharing the laundry space with coats and backpacks.
We went to work tearing out the wall between the closet and the hall linen closet so we could enter the room from the hall.

We took out the shelves from the closet and worked on patching the walls.  Next we picked out a color and tile.  I wanted a calm color...something that looked clean and inviting so I chose a light green color.  We chose black and white octagonal tile for the floor. I wanted something classic, something you might find in an older home.

The floor just said laundry room to me. We finished up and put in the washer and dryer and came up with a fun laundry room and perfect space to do laundry in.  If you have to do laundry, it might as well be in a cute room.

A touch of brick

Life has been crazy around here. It has been a while since my last post. We have been busy adding a little bit of exposed brick to our home. There is a landing in my stairs between my middle level and my basement level that I wanted to dress up for a long time.

There was this shelf that came out from the wall. I wanted to put brick on the top and wainscoting on the bottom.

We started by putting up some backer board, and went to work adding the brick. It is the thin brick perfect for walls.

We were nervous about bricking a wall, but it actually was so easy. A lot easier than tile in fact.

I was excited to get the brick done, and move on to the wainscoting.

We nailed on 1/4 inch plywood and a piece of wood for the shelf and went to work on the detail.

We measured and ripped MDF on the table saw to create the detail of the wainscoting.

Then I went to work painting it white.

And adding some fall decorations to it.

I love the way it turned out. Just enough detail to really add some personality to the stairway. Finally, my whole lower level of my home is finished. Now moving on to another room! Pin It

My basement bathroom make over

I can't believe so many days have passed since I last posted. I haven't found a minute since the start of school to sit down and blog. Last year we decided to renovate and completely gut our basement.  The very first project we did down there was the bathroom.  This room seriously needed a face lift. It started out just your typical basement bathroom. Nothing fancy.

This is the before, right after we moved in.  It functioned fine, and served it's purpose but it just wasn't great to look at.  So we got to work gutting it out.  First we got rid of everything including the tub.

Yea, everything was out and we were ready to put things back together. I wanted to use a black and white checkered floor tile with white subway tile for the shower.  My son chose an apple green color for the walls and we installed V board and painted it white to break up the color.

I purchased a vanity from Lowes that I decided to paint a light gray color.  I got out the Prinzzer primer and painted a few coats, painted the gray color, then put new knobs on it, and it looked like a totally custom vanity.

Here is the finished product. Let me just tell you, small bathrooms are hard to photograph!
